Aloha fashionistas, welcome back to another fashion-filled month at Scriptoeris!
A change is amongst us this month and we are asking the hotly debated question: who do we dress for? Whether its ourselves, our friends, our partners, trends or pressure, we all dress – but who or what is it really for?
There’s an old saying that women dress for other women. Be it so, then why are we dressing for others and not ourselves? It may be that to feel the need to dress to impress others is a lack of putting ourselves first, and in dressing for other women, what happens to our needs? Are we then purely dressing to impress, despite our desires and comforts? Competition aside, we may dress for other women as an act of female unity – getting together to share a passion for something we all have in common.
Women aside, there is no kind of recognition that we dress for others; heck, sometimes we even dress for our dogs.. (white jeans + mud = disaster), but whatever the outcome, dressing for ourselves, and only ourselves is something that comes with age and confidence – a finding of peace within ones fashion if you will, however in doing so, we can then be more free to experiment and wear what we really want.
There is an old saying that fashion is temporary and style is timeless.. but whatever we choose to wear, it’s for a reason. The whole debate of who we dress for is complicated, and whether it be for attention, competition or purely female impressing, this will always be a never-ending debate which has no ending.
Let us know what you think as we would love to know what you think of this, and more importantly, who do you dress for?
