Fitting in at your university can be difficult, especially if it is your first year or if you just recently transferred to the school. It can be even harder to fit in if you are attending a university that has a large campus. But, do not be discouraged because of other people or the size of your campus. Always remember, you can attract more people by walking to a beat of your own.
If you are struggling fitting in on campus try to invest time in finding Greek life, sports, or clubs that you are interested in. These actives are a great way to meet people who have similar interests as you. This is a perfect way to assimilate into a group of people on campus who you will be able to relate to.
Another way to fit in is to become friends with people within your classes and major. Most likely you will be seeing these people a lot throughout your four years of education because they are studying similar things that you are. Making friends in these groups helps you to fit in because those people can relate to your workload and experiences in your major.
Attend different events your school hosts of clubs hosts. Usually, when a school is hosting an event, this means instant free food, which is always an added bonus. But, these events usually attract a large crowd at campuses. Attending sporting events, pep rallies, and other fun events your school may host gives you the opportunity to meet tons of new people. One thing that you have in common with every other student at your University is that you attend the same school. Nothing unites a campus together like school spirit and these events can be fun too.
But, do not place too much emphasis on fitting in. Sometimes not fitting in will attract more people to you, which will enable you to fit in with a crowd you create. The most important thing is to be yourself and know who you are. Do not try to change yourself just to fit into a group of people. You want to have people around you that like you for who you are!
