What’s the first thing that springs to mind at the mention of New York? Penthouses, rooftop bars, immaculately dressed city slickers? Working in PR in the city itself, I can confirm that indeed, the dreamy, Carrie Bradshaw lifestyle does in fact exist. Of course, it goes without saying that it does not come cheaply but, then again, whoever coined the term ‘the best things in life are free’ had clearly not spent enough time in NYC. But in a city where it is possible to eat out every single night for 54 years without ever returning to the same restaurant it is difficult to find New York’s in-crowd. To narrow this down, I give to you, the definitive list of the top city hangouts for a PR girl.
Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar: TriBeCa
Cocktails here are like none you’ve tried before. At the Conrad New York, located in TriBeCa, this rooftop bar is the perfect way to spend a summer evening in the city. You’d think it would be difficult to improve this bar with its views overlooking the Hudson River, but Loopy Doopy Bar has managed to do just that. A glass of prosecco with an alcoholic, fruity ice lolly in it. And yes, before you ask, it is as divine as it sounds. As the ice lolly melts you are left with a fabulous, fruity, fizzy, cocktail, the perfect accompaniment to those hot city nights. Oh, and be sure to dress as though you’ve just stepped off your yacht in Cannes to really fit in.
One must always have an excessively expensive dinner when visiting New York and where better to do so than the classic ‘The River Café’. Here views are never second best, eat your dinner overlooking the Manhattan skyline and Lady Liberty herself. It’s time to whip out your best dress and heels, here is a favourite dinner spot of New York’s best dressed. Extravagant? Yes. Worth it? Undoubtedly.
Pier 66 Maritime (Frying Pan): Hudson River Park
This floating vessel of a bar is not to be missed and perfect for passing an afternoon. Spend the day taking a stroll by the water’s edge down to Pier 66 if you fancy a delicious grill for lunch or a cheeky afternoon cocktail (the white sangria is a definite must). A great place to sit and chill as well as doing a spot of networking with the PR girls of NYC.
Healthy and oh-so delicious by CHLOE. is the perfect spot for a light dinner or quick lunch. An Instagram-worthy menu at affordable prices has the coolest inhabitants of this city swarm to it like bees to honey. The restaurants are also situated in the hippest locations, SoHo to the West Village to Williamsburg to the Flatiron, with one soon to open in the Rock Center. A promise of divine food with the best crowd, what more could you ask for?
La Piscine, Hôtel Americano: Chelsea
Don’t settle for the overcrowded swimming pool of Central Park where you can be sure to be hit in the head countless times with children’s inflatables. Instead, grab your floppy sunhat and a pair of wedges and head on over to Chelsea to buy a day pass to La Piscine: a rooftop pool with panoramic views of the city. Spend the day hanging out by the pool, sipping cocktails and nibbling Mediterranean inspired snacks and you’ll immediately forget about the sticky subway journey home.
