How to handle end of term stress

stress

We are only a couple of weeks away until universities and schools break up for the holidays. As much as we would love to be thinking about hot chocolate and open fires there are still exams, exams and more exams. According to research, 31 per cent of America believe that the holidays are “frantic” and we couldn’t agree more. Which is why, once again Smart Girl Tribe is lending you some tips to end the term stress-free.

Eat well

You have to see food as fuel. Living off caffeine and sugar you are soon likely to burn out. Start meal prepping to help you through and even though cooking can be time-consuming it will help you in the long run. Blueberries, blackcurrants and other berries are full of vitamin C, which help improve mental agility. Vitamin E and zinc have a positive impact on the brain so have a helping of pumpkin seeds and walnuts on hand next time hunger strikes.

Sleep for longer

During exam season if you are not getting enough sleep you will feel sluggish and lazy. Start going to bed an hour earlier than usual and set your alarm for an hour earlier, this will help you get even more done and done well. You should be sleeping between 8-10 hours each night and putting that screen down at least an hour beforehand. Whether you are working late on your computer or playing on your phone/tablet, the blue light emitted from most modern devices will disturb your sleep by activating the release of the waking hormone Cortisol

Take a break

Nobody can keep going, know yourself well enough to know when you need a break. Every 50 minutes you should stand up and away from revision, you should either go for a walk or stretch. Just allow yourself to step away from all that work for a little bit. I promise you it will make you feel better and even more inspired to pound out the rest of your work.

Organise a study group

Get together with friends for a study session. You may have questions that they have the answers to and vice versa. As long as you make sure you stay focused on the topic for an agreed amount of time, this can be one of the most effective ways to challenge yourself.

Use bath salts and sleep sprays

This works is an amazing brand to use for sleep sprays. Even though sprays and salts may seem too quirky for you, they are very helpful for stress levels. Good health, low stress and calmed nerves are often closely related. The right nutritional or herbal supplement may be part of the remedy for settling one’s nerves on the day of an exam. Commonly used supplements include:

  • Passionflower
  • Kava
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Lysine
  • Magnesium

These are the most important tips for students, I guarantee you will execute your work and exams before the holidays. And better than that, just two weeks and you will be free.
