Hello Scriptoeris readers and welcome back to another fashion-filled month! Let’s discuss Blake Lively’s new online site – Preserve. Best commonly described as a lifestyle site, it heavily promotes the ‘greater good’ and is based on categories in which you can shop for.
The website covers a wide range of ‘lifestyle’ sectors: Taste, Home, Intimacy, Style, Projects, Wellness, Culture and Celebration, however in doing some research, it became quickly clear that there is a lot of negative feedback about Lively’s site.
Lively has separated herself totally from the site. Visually, it is dark and mysterious, but in using her name to promote it – we believe that people expect it to be lifestyle guidance on how to be like Blake and maybe this is why the site has got negative feedback.
Negativity aside, the Preserve team have made it very clear that the site is purposely a for-profit business with the greater-good aim to reach their goal of giving ‘5,000 children a meal, 2,000 children a blanket, and 2,700 children a warm hoodie, all within the U.S.’
Therefore aside from the over-priced products for sale with their heavily produced descriptions – the site is for a good cause. It might be said that the negative feedback comes to light as the expensive products clash with, and have no link to the cause, but then again, they might be trying to target to a certain audience.
All in all, it would be wrong to criticize Blake for branching out of her Hollywood actress status. Using her name as the background for Preserve is bold and brave, yet clever as her name stands as it creates awareness. People need to remember that this negative press is still press, and at the end of the day, there is a whole-hearted, good meaning behind the website, and that is to help others.
Bit of a controversial one for you this month Fashionistas! Let us know what you think; we would love to hear from you!
