Olivia Palermo’s career tips

Olivia Palermo is known as an American socialite to some people, but a fashion icon to many more. Since her short stint on MTV’s The City, she has broadened her horizons and went in a different direction. Palermo is now a fashion mogul and has taken on many fashion capitols. There is more than meets the eye with Olivia Palermo, and so much advice to learn from her.

We all have our personal style, but for Palermo she simply tells people to dress how they want, they were born to stand out so why change that? Want to wear that colorful dress or super boho top? Go for it! Dress for yourself, not anyone else.

Another piece of advice she has shared is to be confident in your choices. Palermo hates her portrayal when she was on The City but she looks back with confidence. She has grown so much in the past few years as a person, and she has shown that off. Confidence will get you places, but being overly confident won’t. Learn that fine line, but do everything with confidence.

In Hello’s fashion issue Palermo says that she stayed late in meeting to learn more. Starting off in your career means you should get there early and stay late. Soak up every piece of information you can. Your boss will notice the little things.

Don’t feel pressured into anything. Whether that means something big like deciding not to take a job, or something small like not going out with colleagues. Palermo always talks about how life is all about balance, so don’t focus on what others are doing or what you think you should be doing. Take each day at a time and focus on yourself. You’ll be much happier in the end.

Invest in the important things. Learn to not be an impulse buyer. That not only sets back your bank account but you’ll have things you don’t need. She focuses on pieces she’s been eyeing for months and then goes after them after thinking it through. Those Manolo Blahnik’s will be worth it.

Learn how to restyle your wardrobe. Palermo loves taking blazers, chiffon tops, jeans, leather pants, and all her staples to create an entirely new closet. Pairing a vintage blazer with leather pants could be your new favorite outfit. Remember, if you haven’t worn it in over a year, get rid of it. There’s nothing worse than a cluttered, outdated closet.

Taking these tips from the one and only Olivia Palermo can really benefit and change your life.  She may be young, but has learned so much over the past ten years.
