Land a job in PR

“When you find something that feels right, concentrate on refining your skills and educating yourself about your chosen field. Commit to it” Kelly Cutrone

The public relations industry is just as competitive as the fashion world when it comes to searching for jobs. My dream job is to work at well-known fashion public relations company, but I know it will take some time to get there. We all have a business in mind when we think about our dream jobs, so how can you actually make that happen? Whether your dream career is at a public relations boutique, corporation, or a fashion magazine, here are a few tips and tricks to land your dream job!

1. Be Confident- If you want the job that bad, then you have to show that to the business. Being confident in yourself will only make you strive for it more. PR ladies are known to be confident, so show it off!

2. Be Personable- Write a cover letter than shows off your personality. The company sees thousands of these letters, so make yourself stand out! Being professional and personable makes you stand out among the rest. Also, on your social media platforms showcase who you are and who you strive to be. That will help companies see what you are capable of.

3. Update Your CV- We hear this over and over again, but it’s true. Tailor your CV to show off the skills that the company can see beneficial and transferrable. In PR, you have to be adaptable, so think of making your CV the same way.

4. Do Your Research- If the business has a big online presence, so should you. You want to show the company that you are knowledgeable about the most recent events and their company. Being educated about the company itself and what they do will help you align their goals with your goals.

5. It Takes Time- Your dream job won’t happen right out of university. I have told myself this over and over again, and I finally understand it. I get it, you want to start your dream job now, but you have to be patient. Having those jobs beforehand will be so beneficial to you, so immerse yourself in that first.

6. Don’t Define Success by Others- “Envy is the only one of the seven deadly sins that isn’t any fun.” Don’t compare yourself with others because it will only bring you down. Focus on yourself and the success will come.
