Keeping up your summer ‘do

IMG_0472 copyWhilst the summer sun starts to dip below the horizon and the leaves begin to shrivel and turn a lovely golden brown, our hair is also going through a transition. With the cold wind comes the loss of moisture, and all hair, especially that which has been coloured or treated, can become very dry and sometimes brittle. Desperate to keep your healthy, bouncy summer hair around? Follow these tips and you should see a less dramatic change when the temperatures really start to drop!

Moisture, moisture, moisture!
Lying in the sun all day and dipping in and out of the pool can have a very drying effect on your hair, and when the winter winds arrive this can be worsened tenfold. The best way to not only help heal and summer damage done, but also prevent your hair from being damaged by the colder weather is to keep it super moisturised. So, what’s the best way to do that? First off, once a week try to use a deep conditioning mask on your locks to give them a really good pampering. One of our favourited treatments is from Dove and it’s called the Dove Advanced Hair Series Pure Care Oil Treatment Mask, but there are loads of great masks out there. You also want to consider using a nice hair oil to further protect your hair. Like the treatment mask, there are tonnes of these out there, but recently we’ve been using the OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Oil and loving it!

Treat it right:
Something that a lot of people do wrong but don’t realise is using the wrong brush. Using a brush that’s inappropriate for your hair type can cause unnecessary breakage and damage – and it’s such an easy thing to fix! We at Scriptoeris love the Michel Mercier Detangling Brushes that come in three different types for different hair thicknesses. Upgrading your brush is so simple, but can definitely make all the difference!

Keep up the colour:
Through the winter months, hair can start to look more and more dull due to the lack of sunlight. What tends to keep our hair looking its best is keeping the colour fresh, and there are lots of ways that you can achieve this. First and more obvious, you can get it recoloured – make sure you use someone/a product that you trust and definitely use the first point mentioned above and keep it super hydrated. Beyond that, consider getting specific shampoos and treatments to keep your colour looking bright. An example of this for blonde-haired girls is to buy something like John Freida’s Sheer Blonde Range, or even their Colour Renew line to help eliminate any brass tones.
