Gilmore Girls. It’s a show. A lifestyle, a religion.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was the November 2016 reboot we had all been waiting for. Even though it revealed those highly anticipated four words, the new episodes still left us with more questions than answers.
Thanks to the show’s creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and a deal with Amazon, another return to Stars Hollow may be happening. Amy hinted at a new revival recently, telling Radio Times: “We carved out a little niche for ourselves with Amazon saying that if we ever want to do it, if the girls and us get together and we have a concept that works, then we have the freedom to do it.”
Both Alexis Bledel and Scott Patterson have confirmed that they would been open to it if the timing is right. Despite, Lauren Graham saying it might to be too risky to make more instalments because there would be more room for disappointment.
Gilmore Girls has always been a loveable show but it is its feminist angle we have enjoyed watching the most. Last year, Graham told Entertainment Weekly: “The show is sneakily feminist. In that it’s always been great for them to have love, but they’re also okay when they don’t. That self-sufficiency is the first strength and that allows them to have these relationships. It’s why we sometimes bristle at: What team are you on?! It’s like: It doesn’t matter. Rory’s going to be great no matter what. And I think that’s an underlying message of the show, too.”
The Gilmore Girls’ force to be reckoned with and Rory Gilmore’s overachieving friend Paris Gellar was just one of the original show’s many fearless and determined female characters. From Lorelai and Luke’s unexpected discussions about parenthood, to Paris’ career as a doctor in a surrogacy clinic, Gilmore Girls has always been a huge advocate for independence. The most stand out moments of this was Lorelai’s speech about valuing education over boys and frequent references to Christiane Amnapour.
Whether team Dean, Jess or Logan. Longtime visitors to Stars Hollow know that the show’s real focus is the Gilmore Girls themselves. Their relationship with each other, their opinions and careers. Where is the petition to bring it back?
