Getting the job based on your dreams not your degree

As a 20 something, you’ll go through numerous jobs before you find the one for you. Don’t expect to land your dream job fresh off the stage after graduation. To keep yourself sane, there are a few questions you should ask yourself before choosing your next job. It’s easy to fall in the trap of what you should be doing but if you found out it would work , would you still choose your should have path or your chosen one?

How Will This Job Benefit You? Is this temporary and for experience or are you in this for the long haul? Make sure you know what you are looking for out of this job and the time frame you expect to sufficiently gain anything from it. Otherwise you’ll find yourself getting comfortable and it won’t take long till a temporary fix becomes a permanent one.

Is the Time Worth the Pay? Before you do anything else, weigh the responsibility of the job versus how much you earn. If it’s insufficient you have to ask yourself if you are willing to sacrifice your time for this particular job. Granted, it’s not all about the money, but if there’s one thing us #girlbosses know it’s that we need to support ourselves. This all depends on your personal situation and what it is you seek to gain from the job.

What Do You Have to Offer? Just as important as what the job will do to benefit you, what do you have to offer the position that no one else can? When you go for an interview the main point is to sell yourself, so know your strengths.

Are You Willing to Travel? Whether it be moving to a certain area to be closer to work or a work related trip, is that something you’re willing to do? It’s definitely something to consider when choosing the right job for you, it’ll help determine what you will do to get and keep the pending position.
