Get an internship abroad!

If you’re a traveler like me, experiencing new cultures is an exciting concept. You would choose NYC subway rides and evenings spent at Le Louvre practicing your French over getting a bus to your local paper or gaining experience at your parents’ firm.  You’re dreaming of not only being a tourist but actually immersing yourself; living and working there.

The greatest way to dive in is to snag an internship abroad (which won’t break the bank)!

Start building experience where you are

Begin by using your current location as a base. Take advantage of the great internships your current city has available to deepen your education and knowledge. Honing in on your skills will boost your résumé and strengthen your chances of securing an international internship.

Network with everyone!

You know how your mother told you not to talk to strangers? Well, that completely fades once you step into a dynamic industry such as PR/journalism or fashion. My favorite place to network is on Twitter. You would be surprised at how many public relations specialists are utilizing that platform professionally. Don’t be afraid to reach out and even contact your parents’ friends, you never know who you don’t know. Talk to your mentor first, if they work in a similar field, they could potentially know thousands of individuals all over the world.

Just go for it

I get it. Taking risks and stepping outside of your comfort zone can be daunting. But how fun would life be without plunging into the unknown? This life is meant to be lived fully. Refuse to allow fear keep you from accomplishing your dream. Network, land the internship, and move to that country. Chances are you won’t regret it.
