Valentine’s Day is often jokingly called Single’s Awareness Day, because of how much emphasis is placed on being in a relationship on that one day! And while being in a relationship can be fun, being single isn’t all that bad either. So here are just a few reasons why being single on Valentine’s Day isn’t the end of the world.
One: You don’t have to stress about buying your significant other a gift. Or planning the perfect date. There are no expectations that you place on your significant other, and no expectations that he or she places on you. There is absolutely no stress placed upon you as a single girl on Valentine’s Day.
Two: You can celebrate Galentine’s Day twice. If you don’t know what Galentine’s Day is, it’s a holiday that takes place on the 13th of February, in order to celebrate your fabulous girlfriends and your friendships. Celebrate twice if you don’t have plans on Valentine’s Day and spend quality time with your girlfriends!
Three: You can treat yourself! Who says that you have to be in a relationship in order to be pampered on Valentine’s Day? Grab a friend and have an at home spa day, eat some cheap chocolate, and spend the night in your pajamas and watch a movie. It’s a perfect way to relax and de-stress from the week that’s passed, and you don’t need to stress about getting all dressed up to impress a date; you get to decide your plans for the night.
Four: There’s not awkward date to sit through. How many people are going out on first dates on Valentine’s Day, or on dates where their significant other is planning to end things? By being single, you avoid the awkwardness of a first date on one of the most romantic days of the year, and you avoid the awkwardness of potentially having your heart broken on a day meant to celebrate love.
Five: No one is there to stop you from flirting with whomever you want. You can flirt with your Starbucks barista that morning, and the guy or girl across the room if you go out that night, and no one can tell you that it’s a bad idea, and you won’t feel guilty about it either.
Six: People watching is ten times better on Valentine’s Day. Go sit yourself down in a crowded place (a Starbucks or a restaurant are probably your best bets), and get to observing! Make up stories for each couple or person you see. Write them down, especially if you see something especially out of the ordinary, so you can tell your girlfriends later! Who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired by something you see!
