Editor’s Choice: Milan

The Italians just do everything better. They are charismatic when they speak, glamorous when they shop and a pleasure to dine with.  This unofficial capital is what New York is to the Americans, it is a centre which overlooks banks and office buildings but in the nooks and crannies there lies a world of wonder.  Streets radiate from the Duomo and lead to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a mystic corridor of golds where haute couture takes centre stage. The four paths around the Galleria lead to a selection of standout stores which include Prada, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. In Rome, everywhere is a postcard but here you have to travel to the landmark, which only adds to the excitement. Each monument is known in its own right and Italians still marvel at them. Little did I know, in the depths of the Castello Sforzesco would I find Michelangelo’s final piece. Milan remains bemused by modern day antics. Couples still walk hand in hand without the need to look at a phone, taxis are still flagged down, not requested and the standard greeting is still two kisses. This old school romance is something I adored during my time there and took with me home.
