3 career lessons most learn too late

Your social life develops offline. On average, we spend 10 hours a day on social media sites. Using these platforms to connect with the world is fairly counterproductive though, you are not connecting to the world by spending time with people in real life — speaking to them, interacting with them and conversing with them. Networking is crucial to forge a successful career path but that means engaging with people properly, setting up coffee dates, sending thank you notes and talking on the phone. Businesses are built on people, you need a solid support system.

The world is your university. Never stop learning. If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room. To keep evolving you have to make a serious commitment to knowledge. It doesn’t all come from a book either, take a language class, learn a new skill or even attend a conference.

Success is incremental. Overnight success is incredibly rare and usually it will take years to develop a product or idea. That does not mean it is not worthwhile though. You need to celebrate your small victories and always think ahead.
